This course is open to anyone who would like to begin a coaching career in tennis or would just like some basic skills in tennis coaching. This course is part of the TNZ coach's pathway. Parents, Students, Teachers, Club Volunteers and anyone interested in increasing their Tennis knowledge to help others.

Senior Singles Club Champs - singles for both Men & Ladies is being held this weekend 10th & 11th March 2012. There is a list on the notice board for names of those wanting to play.

Please write your name on the list by Tuesday night or email clubcaptain a reply prior to Thursday as the draw will be made up Thursday night. Please ensure you are available for both days as the event may run over to the Sunday for the final few games.

Hi all

Mixed Doubles Club Champs are scheduled for this Saturday.(3rd)
Due to the extreme wind warnings we do not believe this would contribute to an enjoyable and fair competition.
Accordingly, Saturday has been POSTPONED and moved to Sunday 4th, which was always an option, on the entry.
The champs will now be played on Sunday 4th with play starting at 10am.
Please arrive at 9:45am to warm up and play will start at 10am.
As we have a 16 draw everyone will start at the same time, so please do not be late, and expect 3 games on the day.

Hi all

Nice to have another fine weekend and a great turn out at Saturday Tennis this afternoon.

Just to remind those who were not at tennis today that we have mixed doubles club champs next Saturday (3rd March with flow over day allowed for on Sunday 4th)

Please arrive at 12:45 to warm up and start at 1pm. We hope to have it run through in one afternoon if possible and will have a BBQ later in the day as well as the bar open.

Please put your names on the list that is on the seniors notice board in the club rooms or email clubcaptain@otumoetaitennis.co.nz . I will be making up the draw on Wednesday and will need all names prior to this date. If you do not have a partner for tennis doubles are keen to play just let me know and I will try and match up players.

Once again keep your fingers crossed for fine weather so that we can have a great day of tennis.

Senior Club Champs - Doubles are being played this Saturday 18th February.

Can all players be at Otumoetai courts at 12:45 to warm up and be ready to play at 1pm. We have 8 pairings for the ladies & 16 pairings for the men and are hoping to get all games played on saturday.

Mark Bougen has kindly offered to man our club bar-b-que in the afternoon/evening so please come and, watch some great tennis, enjoy the bbq and socialise with fellow club members.

There is a notice on the board in the clubrooms for the twilight interclub tennis.

• Ushers and general helpers required for the Davis Cup at the TECT Arena, Baypark, Mount Maunganui to be held on 10-12th February 2012
• Three strong men also required to assist with the laying of the special Tennis Court for the Tie on 2nd – 4th February.
• Ball Children will be required and tennis players between the ages of 11-15 are wanted especially those with experience. Ball children will be provided with Hugo Bos Clothing that can be kept after the event.

Tennis Waikato-Bays - DAVIS CUP TICKETS GO ON SALE.

DAVIS CUP TICKETS GO ON SALE.

On Monday 9th January the TECT (Tauranga Energy Consumers Trust) customers
can purchase tickets from 12pm with their special promo code (seats are
limited) and from midday Thursday 12th January seats are available to the
public. Tickets are available through Dash Ticketing and can be accessed by

Play will start on Friday 10th February at 3pm (the opening ceremony is at
2.45pm) with the first 2 singles matches which are both best of 5 sets.
Saturday is the one doubles match also best of 5 sets again starting at 3pm
and Sunday is the reverse singles. If the tie has already been won the
singles maybe reduced to best of three sets on Sunday. Play on this day will
commence at 11.00am to allow people to travel.

The venue has climatically controlled air temperature and a cafe so spend
the first part of the day in the lovely WBOP and then go along to a
fantastic afternoon and evening of tennis.

The Davis Cup tickets for the NZ vs Uzbekistan Tie February 10-12, 2012 at
the TECT Arena, Mt Maunganui, Tauranga are likely to be available through
Dash Ticketing from January 10th. We apologise for the delay caused by
unforeseen circumstances and as soon as the ticket availability date is
confirmed we will be notifying our club and member databases. At this stage

For those people who have signed up for our 13th Dec Midweek Brunch that the brunch will still go ahead regardless of the weather? Fun tennis is to commence at 9am and we are going to start serving the meal at 11 am, so fingers crossed, we will be able to have both. If the weather precludes tennis play, people should just arrive around 10.45 onwards for the brunch.

An ouststanding day of tennis. A big crowd at Katikati on a stunning
afternoon with strong support
from the Mount with a bus of 30 supporters making the trip. At top
doubles Mount were in great form with
a very clinical performance. Both Brown and McCashin were complete in
every aspect of the game.
In the bottom doubles Salmon/Bowen played very well to take the first
set in the tie-break before
Donald/Kelly took a stranglehold on the match taking the next 12 games
in a row to win the second and third
sets. The match of the day was the top singles. Martin was in
blistering form hitting winners off both sides
of the court and dominating with his big serve and volley game.
Leading 6/0, 4/0 it looked like Martin was
going to dispose of Brown quickly. Nick Brown dug deep, and through a
very gutsy display, and some sublime
tennis from all over the court, reeled off 6 games in a row to take
the second set. The third set was tight with
Martin breaking Brown at 2-2 and held on to take the final set 6/4
with both players calling on all their reserves.
In the No.2 singles the first set was extremely tight with Donald
taking it 7/5 before running away with it 6/0 in
the second set. At No.3 Dan Kelly was too solid for Peter O'Dea, Kelly
taking the match 6/3, 6/4. At No 4
Steve McCashin was dominating Anton Mitchell before Mitchell retired
sick down 6/0, 1/0

As an announcement/reminder to all midweek players.

The OTC Midweek Tennis Group will again be holding a 'Closing Day Champagne Brunch' on Tuesday, 13th December 2011.
The cost is $10, which will include eggs, sausage, hash brown patties, ham, etc., etc., as well as a glass of 'bubbly', following morning 'fun tennis'.

Please contact Ruth Barrowclough, Faye Gardiner, Cheryl Goodwin or Evonne Gorrie for your ticket. Space must be limited to the first 50 who sign up.

Otumoetai Courts 1-4 TENNIS SHOES ONLY

Hello ,

OTC is proud to announce that the resurfacing of our Courts 1-4 with a Plexicushion surface is complete, and we expect to be able to open the courts for play by next Tuesday evening/Wednesday, pending any unexpected 'developments'. (There is a required 7-day 'cure time' following the work completion before they can be used. This effort, involving an expenditure of over $240,000, means that we now have a premium surface available for play, and player development.

In conjunction with this work completion, your Committee feels it both necessary and prudent to remind everyone at this time that players MUST be wearing proper, NON-MARKING tennis shoes on this surface. Players wearing cross-trainers, running shoes, general 'sport' shoes, etc., will NOT be allowed to use Courts 1-4, as these shoes can and will leave marks on the playing surface. If you have a question about your shoes, please check them, away from the courts on a hard surface, before you try to play on Courts 1-4. If your shoes do not comply, then your game will be moved to the Astrograss Courts, if available.

Please also politely make sure that all visitors and opposition are aware of these simple rules.

The latest, as at last night (another week):

The plan is as follows, subject to weather:

Ø Friday 4th - 2 coats of playing surface (Plexipave) on courts 1-4 COURTS ONLY

Ø Saturday & Sunday Sand (gentle grind using stone) the surface to
ensure no irregularities and also a faster surface, the same as
Melbourne and Auckland

Ø Monday 7th - 2 coats of playing surface on the surrounds (outside
of the courts)

Ø Tuesday & Wednesday sanding (gentle grinding using stone) to
prepare for final coat

Ø Thursday - final coat on court.

Ø Friday final coat on outside of court.

Ø Saturday 12th Lines

Ø REST courts for 1 week after the final coat, done Friday.

Ø 1st play on the courts ?? Friday 18th or Saturday 19th

All subject to weather which looks pretty good for this week coming.
The odd shower should have no effect.

As progress changes I will keep you informed, this is a moving target,
but getting closer and at least the weather is on our side now.

OTC Premier Men's and Women's teams will be playing on Saturday 12 November, at 3.00pm, the Men against Whakatane, (hopefully the first games held on the NEW PLEXICUSHION) and the Women against Whakapapa (a combined team of WHAKAtane and PAPAmoa).
