Please make yourself available to play in these competitions and if you haven't been contacted, then please check with Sue Clarke susan@tenniswaikatobays.co.nz for players in WBOP or BOP; Trevor Hinton trevor@tenniswaikatobays.co.nz for HB players Mandy Souchon souchon@xtra.co.nz for Thames Valley players or Anita Zuber sportsforce@tenniswaikatobays.co.nz for Waikato players.

These competitions are for players to represent their area against all other Tennis Waikato-Bays areas. We expect all the top players to compete. Teams will require volunteer managers to travel with the teams. There is no funding for these competitions so will be on a user-pays basis with some teams having the option to be billeted.   We would really appreciate any offers of help to make these events a success. This is a great way to get a taste of representative team tennis in a very friendly atmosphere.

Tennis NZ Seniors National Championships were held in Hamilton 23 -27 January 2013, a number of players from the Waikato Bays region competed in this event. A number of players had success in winning titles while others were runner up or winners in the consolation draws.

Interested?

If anyone is keen on playing in the National teams, (which are meant to be heaps of fun).

Two players from Taranaki are keen to play in the Easter Teams event. They can not find another 2 players from their region, but as they are neighbouring regions we can combine with Waikato. They would like to hear from any ladies (ideally 2, maybe they could play together) who perhaps have missed out on the Waikato Team (usually the winning Team in their age group), and who would like to join them? They are in the 55 - 59 age group, but would also be happy to play in the 50 -54's.

Please email
waikatoseniorstennis@gmail.com if interested.

Tennis NZ Affiliation Update

Tennis NZ is keen to get this new affiliation format out to all the clubs and get it passed through Regional Special General  Meetings (SGM)  and then onto the TNZ SGM. There will be a proposed SGM Motion coming out in the next few weeks for the clubs to consider and we would like as many clubs to come on-board and be involved. This will mean that clubs will be affiliated to Regions and TNZ rather than individuals and that club affiliation fees will only increase each year by CPI and that will be capped at 3%. If CPI goes down so will the affiliation fee. Tied up with this will be the number of votes the clubs and regions will get at the regional & National AGMs. Please look out for more details as they filter from TNZ.

Heineken Open Kids Day Winners

Congratulations to the five lucky Tennis Clubs that were drawn to go to the Heineken Kids Day on 7th January in Auckland.  Each club took four club members between the ages of 9 and 13 years.  The lucky clubs were:  Hawkes Bay Lawn Tennis Club (but couldn't make it on the day), Paeroa Tennis Club, Gate Pa Tennis Club, St Peter's Tennis Club in Hamilton and Lynmore Tennis Club in Rotorua.

Here are a couple of articles from the juniors at Gate Pa Tennis Club :

From Sam Henderson (and his mother, Rachel) :

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mike and the Gate Pa Tennis Club for selecting me to go to the Heineken Open and to Mike for taking us.

The day was very hot, but I enjoyed every minute of it.  I got to hit with the players, meet the players, watch them in practice matches and matches, and got the signatures.  It was awesome to spend the day with Mike, Anthony, Phoebe and Analyse cause we all got to know each other better.

Thanks Soooooooooooooooo much.

From Sam Henderson

Thanks from Rachel :

Sam had the most amazing day and has not stopped talking about it.  Thanks so much to you all and especially you Mike for making the day fun for them all.  It's an experience Sam will never forget and asked me yesterday if I thought one day if he could play in the Heineken Open :-)

Regards

Rachel

From Analise Wang:

I had a great time at the Heineken Open yesterday. I would like to thank Gate Pa Tennis Club for giving me this amazing opportunity to see the professionals play live.

I would also like to thank Mike for taking the four of us there and looking after us for the day, I really appreciate it.

Overall this was an awesome experience for me, I had heaps of fun and will never forget it.

From Anthony Ouelett's mother:

Just a quick note to say that Anthony had an absolutely amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed himself at the Heineken Open yesterday

Thank you so very much for this fantastic opportunity for our PA children :)

We hope that Mike had as much fun as the kids did!

World Tennis Day

We want your school to join in the fun of World Tennis Day!

Monday 4th March 2013 is the inaugural celebration of the wonderful sport of tennis, and we want you and your pupils to be a part of it!

World Tennis Day has been organised by the ITF (International Tennis Federation) with the main focus being on participation – especially for 10 and Unders. The Day will promote the use of modified equipment (red, orange and green tennis balls, smaller racquets, courts and nets). If you have a Grasshoppers Tennis Kit at your school, this is the perfect opportunity to use it!

So tennis fans, we want you to submit a photo of your staff and pupils 'having a hit' on Monday 4th March 2013.

It doesn't matter where you are, how good you are, or what equipment you use. You could be in the playground, on the field, at the school assembly or in the classroom!

It's super easy to submit your photo – from your smart phone just attach it to an email and send to jenny@tennisnz.com or even easier – upload it directly to our facebook page (Tennis NZ). If you're using a more traditional photography format (a camera!) then just upload it and email the pic as an attachment to jenny@tennisnz.com.

C'mon, lets show the rest of the world how much we love tennis and join in with celebrating World Tennis Day on 4th March 2013!
